Best Ice Cream in Barcelona: historic Gelato Shops & Local Favorites

Looking for the best ice cream in Barcelona? Whether you’re craving authentic Italian gelato, traditional Spanish horchata, or handmade ice cream from historic family-run shops, this guide will help you discover some of the city’s finest places.

As an official local guide, I’ve selected ice cream parlors that stand out not only for their quality, but also for their history and their connection to Barcelona’s culinary heritage.

In the 19th century, ice cream shops appeared in Barcelona as family businesses linked to the manufacture of nougat. Many new gelato shops have appeared in the city, some follow the tradition of Italian production and others their own. I will recommend the crafts whose history is part of Barcelona.
